Description[]

The Kunpeng was the earliest ancestor of the Peng race. First came the Kun and then came the Peng. The Kun transformed into the Peng, and thus it was called the Kunpeng. It possessed the most primordial bloodline. The Silver Wing Azure Peng, the Golden Wing Great Peng, they were all inferior branches. The Kunpeng was the strongest existence of the Peng race.[4]

Appearance[]

Kun-peng are massive beasts that look like hybrids of fish and birds. They tend to have fish-like bodies, but their pectoral fins have been replaced by bird-like wings, their mouths are bird-like beaks, and their caudal fins basically look like fish fins, but placed horizontally, like whale flukes, and look like bird tail feathers. Also, their dorsal and pelvic fins look similar to their tail fins. They are quite large, able to give rocs a run for their money in the sky.

Story[]

Long Chen cut the wings of the Kunpeng clan member Kun Tu. When Long Chen refines the wings he obtains 3 bloodline skills and also acquires the bloodline. Even though Long Chen has a dragon bloodline and is is the Dragon Clan Successor, his bloodline doesn't need to be pure. (Kun Peng and Dragons are natural enemies.)

The reason Long Chen stole the wings was firstly to humiliate the Kunpeng Clan. Secondly, if he took the wings he would be able to obtain the Kun Peng Bloodline Abilities.

Lastly, even if he didn't get any Bloodline Skills, he'd still have the speed of the Kun Peng which can be further evolved by refining the mutated wings of Kun Peng they grow after their original wings are destroyed.

Later on in the story Kun Tu reappeared with primordial wings he obtained with their clan inheritance, sadly Kun Tu's life is a being a cultivation asset for Long Chen as he tore the Primordial Wings of from him (again.)

Acquired Bloodline Skills[]

  • Kunpeng Sky Cracking Slash: an extremely powerful attack that rips apart the heavens.
  • Kunpeng void break: a movement technique that gives the user massive speed.
  • Kunpeng feather shield: a very powerful defensive technique.

Legend[]

That Elder was ashen, but he didn’t know how to argue against this one because the legend of the Kungpeng was something that everyone knew.

The Kun was not willing to be restricted to the sea, and it fought against the Heavenly Daos. It was unknown just how many Kun were struck down by the Heavenly Daos, but the Kun would rather die fighting the restrictions of heaven and earth than remain as it was. In the end, the Kun transformed into the Peng, resulting in the legend of the Kunpeng.

It was wildly arrogant, not even placing the heavens in its eyes. It would rather die than submit. Its will was incredibly stubborn.

These legends were recorded in scripture, and for Long Chen to use them to make that Elder speechless excited the disciples. They could finally contend against these elders.[5]

Kunpeng (metaphor) and Long Chen[]

Legend was that the Kun transformed into the Peng, and it was dissatisfied with heaven and earth's restrictions. It would rather become enemies of the world and break free of its restrictions to be free.

The Kunpeng was the definition of wild arrogance. In the myths, its fate was always to be eradicated beneath the Heavenly Daos.

It was like a mystical curse. When the Kunpeng was born, it had to fight against the heavens. It would rather die beneath the Heavenly Daos than be bound by its shackles.

This was similar to Long Chen's fate. At first, Long Chen hadn't wanted to fight against the heavens. But the Heavenly Daos tried to destroy him all the time, and so he had no choice but to become their enemy.

So Long Chen's enemy was not his fellow cultivators, but this entire world and the Heavenly Daos. He understood what the Xuan Master was saying here, and yet, he couldn't do that.[6]

Trivia[]

History[]

  • Kunpeng are mentioned in the Daoist classic Zhuangzi (庄子). It is said that Peng fly nonstop for half a year to reach the legendary Celestial Lake.[7]
  • The Chan Buddhist master Hanshan Deqing (憨山德清) says that the Great Peng is the image of a great Daoist master, and its flight is powered by the accumulation of virtue (德).
